Installations are a way of incorporating the surrounding environment (from white walled galleries, to a cliff-top or public gardens) as an aspect of the work. In "The continuously expanding space..." (1999) two large mirrors and two paper panels were fitted into the existing architecture of this historic archive. "Letters of the Living" (1996) were 19 flags in a nature reserve, along a windy ridge which people walked up to. The kāinga a roto (2010-13) video installation was re-built differently in the 3 museums.
