"The Rorschach Pansy Test" refers to the Rorschach test which is a psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed. In this work the pansy petals are all subtly different. They are paired - a reference to same-sex relationships - and arranged to emphasize the negative spaces (society). The arrangement in a matrix and the pins they hang from reference butterflies caught in nature and placed in a display case.
The Nature-Nurture series are illusionistic works based on photographs of cultivated flowers from a New Plymouth garden in Aotearoa | New Zealand. These are real objects, as shown by the imperfections, arranged artificially and hung out from the wall so that the lighting throws an after image on the wall. This 'seeing through the work' draws attention to the medium, a suspended transparent sheet. It is the equivalent of the words "This is not a pipe" in Magritte's surrealist painting and like his work these are also primarily conceptual works of art.
