When I read the poem "Die Liebe in den Zeiten der EU" (Love in the age of the EU) by Björn Kuhligk I saw it as raising the question of what love for humanity is in the context of the evolving structures of EU membership and identity.
My response is an animation based on changing patterns and arrangements of elements of the EU flag. The stars dance around almost out of control as metaphors for the individual freedom to cross and break borders.
The music, Schubert's "Unfinished Symphony" is played awkwardly by a player still learning the notes.
The eternal blue backdrop is progressively filled with a rainbow and ends with a celebration of the breaking of another boundary as EU countries step by step grant equal marriage rights regardless of orientation.
