The text-conversations on the reverse come from: Dante's, The Divine Comedy, the Qur'án and the Seven Valleys, The Bahá'í Writings.
Text on the back of the card:
Texts in italics are from Canto XXVII, The Divine Comedy
What shall I do now being in God more near?
If thou within this womb of flames were walled...
And whoso maketh efforts for us, in our ways will we guide them
Qur'án 29:69
Go forward into them and thy faith prove,
...Out of thy heart all fear remove, remove!
It is incumbent on these servants that they cleanse the heart
-which is the wellspring of divine treasures- from every marking, and
that they turn away from imitation.
The Seven Valleys
Troubled a little, he said: "Look now, this same
Wall is ´twixt Beatrice and thee, my son.
...until, like Jacob, thou forsake thine outward eyes, thou shalt never open
the eye of thine inward being; and until thou burn with the fire of love,
thou shalt never commune with the Lover of Longing.
The Seven Valleys
My hardness melted, hearing the name told...
Split the atom´s heart, and lo!
Within it thou wilt find a sun.
Qur'án 67:3
Such burning beyond measure did I feel.
My sweet Father, to give me heart of grace,
Continued only on Beatrice to descant.
Kindle the fire of love and burn away all things.
Then set thy foot into the land of the lovers.
The Seven Valleys
Letters of the Living /
Letters van de Levende,
1998 postcard, 15 x 20 cm.
text on reverse:
In 19th century Iran, eighteen individuals known today by the Bahais as the Letters of the Living, left an established religion to follow a new prophet. It was a time of danger, persecution, chaos and passion as they sought to discover the meaning of their new religion.
Each flag symbolized the spirit of these ´Letters´. The flags constantly moved and changed their form but remained linked to each branch, like the individuals they symbolize: anchored in the belief in a religious system, held in relation with one another by a common idea, but blown by the winds.
